In addition to ongoing private portrait commissions for international clientele and pro bono work for nonprofits, charities and foundations Susan was commissioned for illustrations and paintings for such clients as McDonald Charities, Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, NBC Television, Reader’s Digest, and Maranatha! Music, National Medical Home Care, and Memorial Hospital Long Beach, California and Honey baked ham national ads used for 8 years. Susan illustrated two books for the Seventh Day Adventists Church Pine knoll Publications authored by Graham Maxwell in which the original artwork is hanging at their headquarters in Redlands CA. Commercial work in Vermont where Susan did a photography and digital compositing project for Tim's Real Easter Basket Grass, a division of the Vermont Hay Company and illustrations for Vermont Candle company. She has done Pro Bono work and fundraising for Joshua House, North Country Hospital, The Morgan Church, Coventry Town Foundation, QNEK Theatre Company, 4H Vermont, Green mountain Farm to school program and the Haskell Opera house. Susan Kelley Harkey, also known as Susan Kelley and Susan Checkal Kelley, completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Northern Arizona University, with a minor in Art. She received her Master of Arts Degree in Drawing and Painting at California State University, Long Beach, California.
Susan's graduate and postgraduate studies included work in Portraiture, Illustration, Industrial Design Rendering, Digital Rendering, Typography and Graphic Design. Her Master’s degree included a semester special studies in Portraiture at The Tate Gallery in London, National Portrait Museum in London, the British Museum in London, Scottish National Gallery in Scotland and the National Museum in Wales.
Susan and Her husband opened the Daymoon Arts Center and Retreat in Vermont where there were 2 years of fully booked art classes taught by themselves and local artists for children and adults.
Susan owns the trademark for Barn Angels which are constructions made from all compostable materials. At this time she uses the trademarked constructions to sell for community fundraising.
